What Is The Bible?
The Bible is the most widely distributed book in the world. Both Hebrew Scripture and the Christian Bible have been translated more times and into more languages (more than 2,100 languages) than any other book. It is said that more than five billion copies of the Bible have been sold since 1815, making it the best-selling book of all-time. The books of the Old Testament were written before the birth of Christ while the original texts of theNew Testament were written by Apostles or by one of their associates and the events in them took place after the birth of Jesus. Paul wrote approximately two thirds of the New Testament.
The Bible is a lengthy history covering a period of about 4000 years. It covers the Oriental, Babylonian, Assyrian, Chaldean,Persian, Egyptian, and the Roman Empires. There are stories, songs and poetry throughout. The Bible tells of wars, floods, famines, family problems and everyday events. There is sorrow and there is joy. It gives us laws to live by. It tells of the past and also the future.
God has order and wisdom throughout the Bible. God set up the laws of nature. God is the absolute authority in everything. So many religions worship nature and the things of the world but we should worship the Creator - not His creations and the Bible is his word. John 1:1 - In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Paul wrote: "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God" (2 Timothy 3:16”. The word "Scripture" means writing. But this was not just any writing; Paul was talking about the Word of God. God has given us His Word. He has made sure that we can read it in our own language thousands of years after it was first written. Try to set aside a time each day to read God’s word. Give yourself some time to thing about what you have read. |
